            September Song

                 July vanished

into silver trails     of sparkler smoke

against a dark and starry sky

           gone the way

of dripping rainbow popsicles

        daisy petals and dandelion wishes

blowing past

in a warm evening breeze

    Grand castles

constructed at dusk

          washed away at dawn

like sand

on a wooden porch floor

     in relentless rain bands

of a near miss

August hurricane

        High tides fashion

 dramatic cliffs and red flags

        beach grows smaller

       gulls grow bolder

           indifferent sea

      stoically boasts its might

                offers only   occasional consolation

in perfect bits of blue glass

                 memories

            to keep on a shelf

in a heart shaped bowl

           'til seasons pass

          summer circles back

         and we dive like children

set free upon sand

into the calm swells of June
